Education, training and employment
Overview
Clean Slate Training & Employment CIC helps people on low incomes or facing challenges in life to become better off. People can find ways to manage their money differently, stretching and growing a limited budget. We help people find space to think about finding work or better-paid work and increasing their incomes. We also assist them to get online, getting hold of refurbished laptops for people to use and walking people through using online tools and resources. It’s not just about finding help in a crisis, it’s also about being prepared for the future. The question is: Who doesn’t want to be better off?â
To help people become better off, we help them re-organise how they manage their money, find work or better-paid work, and get online. Quids in! is our money skills project, which publishes a quarterly magazine, a monthly money tips email, a range of guides and a website.
What we do
There are a number of ways we can help:
- Clean Slate runs Quids In Centres West of England (Bath and Bristol). Our doors are open to people who’d like to meet us face-to-face. So we can meet you half way, our team works from public spaces like libraries, community cafes and children’s centres
- We run money tips events or workshops for jobseekers who want to try something new in their search for work. These are places to compare notes with others in a similar situation with guidance from one of our team. We do not teach lessons. We’re all adults, let’s talk things through taking a structured approach. More about the training and upcoming dates.
- Some people don’t even need to leave their home. We have a phone or video call-based service to talk through your money or job search options. In some cases, we can enrol you on a short course of weekly sessions to boost your bank balance.

Finance, benefit and debt
Overview
What we do
Many people we help come to us because they were struggling to make ends meet. Some felt they were at the end of the line. Others just wanted to see if there was more they could do for themselves.
Our Money Health-Check process was introduced as a response to lockdown and has helped people find hundreds of pounds. Where available, it can be done over the phone, online or in person. There are different levels of service, depending on where you are in the country and your circumstances.
Those receiving small-scale support made average gains of £317 but those on the highest have averaged £2,250. One lucky person uncovered a windfall of £96,000. There is more on our Money Health-Check services here. From time to time, we also run 3 Bs events for people to meet and chat through ways to re-take control of their money.
